That's why we refer to it as a vessel.

To an extent the vessel is altered by my presence. As the goal is to preserve the integrity of the vessel as well as the human soul, the body becomes more durable. It has to be, to contain an angel.

I don't know if I require my vessel. It would be unwise to test the alternative. Few humans can behold an angel's trueform without suffering for it.

It's also impractical in a setting designed for human proportions.

If my true form were corporeal enough to require contorting to physically fit inside my vessel, that would be disastruous for my vessel. Picture fitting the Chrysler Building into the body you've seen me in.
