It's hardly surprising. I don't appear capable of dying right. So far it's failed to stick.
That aligns with my theory. Whether we are ourselves or merely copies made of our essence at the moment of a potential death, this world pulls us from different universes altogether. It makes sense, if that can be applied to this place at all, that even those of us from one world would be subject to being grabbed from alternate time lines.
It wasn't quite that long for me. Three years. A lot happened, since.
[ A lot that he should mention - perhaps especially now that Sam and Dean are here, and know of everything he ruined. Their forgiveness does not absolve him. ]

It's not that he keeps secrets from Jo on purpose - no more than from anyone else, at least. And perhaps he's been too complacent in enjoying an existence with no one present who could judge or condemn or forgive him for his mistakes. ]
I died three times before the death that led me here. I lied to and betrayed Sam and Dean, unleashing ancient monstrosities upon the world in the process. My mind broke for a while and was kept in an institution. Meg was there to keep me safe. Dean and I got trapped in Purgatory for a year. I nearly killed Dean.

[She knew it had happened for him too. The look on his face when he arrived had shown her that much.]
I doubt we'll get the chance to sit down and obsess over the details.
